Problem:
1. The width of the gap
between the valleys is more than a step so they canot jump over it but less than
two steps.
2. There is no temporary
bridge available i.e no falt platform which they can lay over the gap and walk
over.
Solution Steps: As Demonostrated by NITIE Students
After
searching for resources they found a round wooden log and they use it to cross
the valley. Its illustrated in the picture below.

Principles of Management Concept Used
TEAM:
A team comprises agroup of
peoplelinked in a common purpose. Teams are
especially appropriate for conducting tasks that are high incomplexityand have many interdependent subtasks. the
valley cannot be crossed by a single person but as a team they form a synergy
and achieve more than what individually they can
achieve.
Structuring of Task:
There are three
position in this whole task.
1.
High Risque: The hanging position is of high risque.
2.
Medium Risque: One foot on the ground and other hanging in valley is medium
risque.
3.
No Risque: The position where both the feet are on ground is of no
risque.
Here if you notice all the persons go through this phase. So all positions are
same. The tasks should be designed in such a way that it shouldnot be dependent
on person.
Structuring of Task Roles:
Tasks should have certain attributes for perfect realisation
of a task, which can be stated as:
1.Interlocking roles
i.e. highest level of interdependency 2.Highest level of interactions
among the members 3.Instantaneous feedback 4,No scope for
any Social loafing
The
task here is highly interdependent and provides instantenous feedback upon any
mishap.
Team Excellence:
Excellence is efficiency * effectiveness. Individual cannot
achieve excellence but a team an organisation can achieve that. Efficiency and
effectiveness both comes simultaneously and has to be handled simultaneously.
Effectiveness is where to go? and efficiency is how to go efficiently i.e at
reduced cost or enhanced safety. But to put effect efficiency one has to again
think efficiently.
The
film is based on the ancient Chinese proverb "One
monk will shoulder two buckets of water, two monks will share the load, but add
a third and no one will want to fetch water.

A
young monk lives a simple life in a temple on top of a hill. He has one daily
task of hauling two buckets of water up the hill. He tries to share the job with
another monk, but the carry pole is only long enough for one bucket. The arrival
of a third monk prompts everyone to expect that someone else will take on the
chore. Consequently, no one fetches water though everybody is thirsty. At night,
a rat comes to scrounge and then knocks the candleholder, leading to a
devastating fire in the temple. The three monks finally unite together and make
a concerted effort to put out the fire. Since then they understand the old
saying "unity is strength" and begin to live a harmonious life. The temple never
lacks water again.*
Problem Solution:
When
there was one monk he had no other option but to carry the buckets by himself.
It was long and tiring. This is Craftmanship and
commonises the task as he brings water whenever he
likes.
Then comes another monk. Together they to bring water. As the stick is small
they could carry only one bucket. But thier effort reduced and
they could enjoy their time while comming. But this process had a major
drawback, if the bucket was tilted to someones side more he had to carry more
load. So a solution was reached by a standard
methord that it is to be place at the half position only so as to
distribute the load equally.
This methord had an added advantage that here the efficiency
increased as manual effort per kg of water reduced drastically and they
were fresh on reaching the destination.
Now
a problem came when third monk reached. Now work division was difficult and the
task was put on each others shoulders. This was poor management and a proof that
with poor management compiling more more workers would lead to drop in
productivity.
Now with the event of fire all of them worked together in a fire fighting mode
and devised a new methord of bringing water to the top.
Principles of Management concepts Usage
This
new method has an added number of advantage and practical usage of various Principles of Management concepts , which can be elaborated as below:
1. Creative
Problem Solution:
To address a crisis situation in future they
devised a pulley methord of bringing up water to the top. This also explains that "Neccessity is mother of all Inventions".
2. Current implications:
This method is a modern day assembly line methord in
which productivity increased drastically.
3. Mutuality:
Here in this improved methord there is a high amount of interdependency which
reduces the unproductive time due to social loafing is
reduced.
4. Theory
X & Theory Y Compared:
This method is even better than theory X or theory
Y because this reduces the work content on each by so much that it makes work
play.So the workers enjoy doing their work.This is theory
Z.
Here work is de
centralized and one person does one job only. This gives enhances productivity
and excellence of work as both efficiency and
effictiveness increases.
6. Synergy:
Here clear enough is that the three persons working together can put more water
to the temple than all the working individually.

The idea here is
that the students here will learn at their own pace without much interference
and questioning by teachers, who can in fact keep a track of where the student
is getting struck again and again and to analyse if he really requires any
additional help there. Thus in this case the students are not under constant
observation will behave as analogous to good employees and the teacher as most
of the issues are being taken care automatically will behave analogous to good
manger leading to optimum output i.e.’ best quality education for their
students.

self motivated and interested in further honing their skills in school and

started with Khan remotely tutoring one of his cousins interactively using
Yahoo Doodle images. Based on feedback from his cousin, additional cousins
began to take advantage of the interactive, remote tutoring. In order to make
better use of his and their time, Khan transitioned to making YouTube video
tutorials. Drawings are now made with a Wacom tablet and the free
natural drawing application SmoothDraw 3, and recorded with screen capture
software from Camtasia Studio. Khan's audio narratives are recorded with a

create a separate Khan Academy account.
Khan chose to
avoid the standard format of a person standing by a whiteboard, deciding
instead to present the learning concepts as if "popping out of a darkened
universe and into one's mind with a voice out of nowhere" in a way akin to
sitting next to someone and working out a problem on a sheet of paper: "If
you're watching a guy do a problem [while] thinking out loud, I think people
find that more valuable and not as daunting." Offline versions of the
videos have been distributed by not-for-profit groups to rural areas in Asia,
Latin America, and Africa. While the current content is mainly concerned with
pre-college mathematics and physics, Khan Academy also provides a web-based
exercise system that generates problems for students based on skill level and

Khan believes his academy points an opportunity to overhaul the traditional
classroom by using software to create tests, grade assignments, highlight the
challenges of certain students, and encourage those doing well to help struggling
classmates. The tutorials are touted as helpful because, among other factors,
they can be paused by students, while a classroom lecture cannot be.
The success of
his low-tech, conversational tutorials—Khan's face never appears, and viewers
see only his unadorned step-by-step doodles and diagrams on an electronic
blackboard—suggests an educational transformation that de-emphasizes
classrooms, campus and administrative infrastructure, and even brand-name
instructors.
Again its
reasonable late to write at this hour or may be this is a new beginning, a day
starting as early as 4 Am. Again am very thankful to Dr. Mandi for putting the
deadline as 6AM as in the marathon of many awake nights of MBA this being the
first one and I indeed needed this strength since a long time.
The Theory
There are
basically two theory about the managers.
1. The X-theory
Managers
He or she is the
one who believes employees are lazy and they should be kept under very high
supervision.
2. The Y-Theory Managers
He or she is the
one who believes employees are good and keep motivating/appreciating them on
regular basis.
Also there are
two types of employees.
a. The lazy employee
b. The good employee
Now based on the
above mentioned theories and types, there arise four type of cases in an
organisation. These cases and their impact is mentioned below.
i. X- theory Manager
& Lazy Employee
This is the worst
case. In principle the employee is lazy and manager knows he is lazy. As an
effect the manger will put higher control over the employee which will further
decrease employee’s interest in work and thus productivity will be reduced
ii.X-theory Manager & Good Employee
The manger thinks
employee is lazy but employee likes the work. The steps taken in this case will
put higher control over the employee which will decrease employee’s interest in
work and thus productivity will be reduced
iii. X- theory
Manager & Lazy Employee
The employee is
lazy but manager believes him/her to be good employee so he will keep
appreciating the employee and resultantly soon the employee will get motivated
and thus will contribute towards better productivity.
iv. X-theory Manager
& Good Employee
The employee is self-motivated
and loves the work assigned to him, on top of it hi/her manager makes it a
point to appreciate his /her work to him/her as well as higher authorities.
This is the best possible case in an organisation and will surely boost the
productivity greatly.
The Understanding
The productivity
of an organisation largely depends upon the belief with which a manager is
leading his/her employees and as seen in the different cases explained above a
manager with a good faith I his employees will definitely lead to higher
productivity. its absolutely inline with thePygmalionBelief which put life in a stone
sculpture.
Its 2AM just rain-washed weather in NITIE and a serene pond
calling for a round around it. The usual me would like to put in my I-pod and
go for a walk but then I decide to write my first Management Studies blog,
which obviously can be done tomorrow as the class is on Thursday. The class
which has to be blogged occurred almost a week ago, now am left with two
options
1. The usual CTRL+ C, CTRL+V and then some minor enhancements.
2. Challenge myself and my Bengali room-mate to let me stay
awake (I will need the tube-light) for some more time before letting the
personal processor go to Hibernate mode.
I choose the latter not because I want to test my mental
capabilities, because for the first time in life probably I loved a class. Yes
that very first class in which the very first question put to the students was
"faceook kiya?? kya dekha?? Kya seekha??"
The Big
Questions
The questions that followed this were like
Ques.: What did we get to know from students of other sections??
Ans: To which most of us answered saying that teaching and
environment of his class is going to be cool and fun and in return he (Prasad
Sir) enlightened with the sheer fortune we put on stake to be sitting there and
we must earn it.
And a few more with a lot of wit in them and yes they were all
eye openers.
The Big (Motion) Picture
Next we watched a Pink Floyd classic “Another Brick in the
Wall”. And guess what even it had learning embedded in it, We must not end up
like them…
Yes that very first impression of Dr. Mandi(T.
Prasad sir) , so true to the motto
(yes this one is copied, being a previously Software Engineer I
can't escape it)
Am very sure he will make as "Becho" things to all
segments and under all conditions.
So that been introduction part, the teaching part is even more
interesting.
The Game
Because all we do in the class is playing some games, try to
pretend as already become managers and may be sometimes even higher officials.
But they essentially teach a lot as compared to textbooks which as a fact are
BORING.
Yes I know most of my readers won't believe this and to them I
can just say that piece of Blog is actually the Assignment.
So we had this game of piling cubes one over the other and
make a tower as high as possible (and at the back of our mind we thought it
should be at least as tall as the one made by the other IM-19 section), but
looking at the cubes we gave approximate height, which appeared realistic to
us.
The Outcome & Learning
The person (Highest bidder) after piling up 17 cubes was
actually happy to have achieved 170% of his set target(Goal), but the learning
even out of this game was and which did coincided with mywork experiencewas that Goals were hugely understated as per the potential. Had
the goal been set higher, higher tower could've been achieved. To which entire
class agreed asking for a second chance to redo the same exercise.
Application
Analogously in industry if goals are set in accordance with
potential, the yield can be increased dramatically.
The Predictions
That was still not all, the second part of this game was about
predicting the change in Tower height if the builder was blind-folded and
to be guided by someone else. The verdict from class was almost unanimous with
most of the guys predicting the height to be around one third of the original,
and then with open eyes we realized the role ofmanagement, which if applied properly will further enhance the tower
height analogously the production from industry will also increase accordingly.
The Impression
This class stretched for 4 hours but the learning got
permanently imprinted in our minds.

With the pilot run am very sure that this year Mandi gonna be
even more bigger and livelier
